Pinal Regional Transportation Authority (RTA)
On August 5, 2015, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors established the Pinal Regional Transportation Authority (RTA). In accordance with Arizona State Statute ยง48-5302, the Pinal RTA is a public, political, tax levying improvement subdivision of the state. The Regional Council of Governments for Pinal County, which is currently the Central Arizona Governments, will provide administration and oversight for the activities of the Pinal County RTA, whose membership consists of each member government within Pinal County and other members of the Central Arizona Governments. The Pinal RTA was established to provide a strong focus on developing a balanced regional transportation system for the citizens of Pinal County; and to provide a mechanism for the County, its cities, towns, and Indian Communities to collaborate in developing a seamless countywide 20-year Regional Transportation Plan, which is subject to voter approval.
On June 28, 2016, the Pinal RTA formally transmitted a resolution to the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, requesting that they schedule an election to approve both the Pinal RTA Regional Transportation Plan and a half-cent sales tax. The Pinal County Board of Supervisors must take action by no later than December 28, 2016, to schedule a countywide election.
